"A simply exceptional experience. The food at Tonnarello Scala was outstanding: authentic dishes, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Every course reflects true Roman cuisine, with top-quality ingredients and clear attention to detail. A special thank-you goes to our waiter Tamer, who made the evening even more memorable. Professional, kind, attentive, and always smiling, he made us feel welcome from the very first moment. His food and wine recommendations were flawless. Fantastic atmosphere, impeccable service, and unforgettable food. Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Rome, highly recommended and absolutely worth returning to. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
"One of the popular places in Rome, and it is definitely worth trying. We had lasagna and carbonara. We’ve had carbonara at other places in Italy, so I can say that the carbonara sauce here is super creamy and tasty, and it doesn’t freeze or change texture while eating. We haven’t tried lasagna much in restaurants, but this one is really, really good! It felt like it melts and then disappears in your mouth. I really loved it. Also, their tiramisu was different from the ones I’ve tried in Milan. It was so delicious, a bit cold, and refreshing in your mouth. Don’t say you have no room for dessert—just make space, you’ll love it! Also artichokes as an appetizer was good option."
"An authentic Italian restaurant! I had a great dinner there. It wasn’t necessary to make a reservation. The staff were very friendly, and the homemade pasta was absolutely delicious. I would definitely come back!"
"Stumbled upon this restaurant on our way from the St. Peters Basilica to Trastevere. We ordered the carbonara, oxtail and buffalo. The waitress Naime also recommended us the focaccia and tiramisu and they were both really good. The standouts from the night is the Oxtail, focaccia and tiramisu. Thanks again for the recommendation Naime - we enjoyed it!"
"Our best meal in Rome. Everything was delicious - carbonara, pesto pasta, lasagna, ox tail in tomato sauce. And the tiramisu. Our waiter Reza was excellent, made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend."
"I had a wonderful lunch here on a rainy winter day. Started with fried artichokes in the Jewish style, followed by a pasta, tonnarelli all’ Amatriciana, which was perfectly cooked al dente, and superbly delicious. And the house white wine was a winner. I loved this place. Probably the best meal I had in Rome. I happened to walk in just as they opened for lunch and got a table right away. But by the time I left, there were people waiting to get in. Go early or expect to wait."
"Excellent food here. We love the bake artichoke as an appetizer. Oxtail was an excellent meal. The Roman spaghetti was all right, but the bacon could be improved. My wife had baked oxtail in a tomato sauce, and that was excellent. The waiter told us that he would bring us some bread, but that never came. There’s 10% added to your bill for service, and that’s OK, but it’s almost as if the waiter expected us for an extra tip. He should not be pushing for that. However, I would come back."
"Tonnarello is a simple place serving up casual Roman cuisine including pasta, pinsa and meatballs. They have a couple branches in the Trestevere, this one being at Piazza della Scala. Opening hours are 11.30am to 11pm daily. We stopped by around 11.45am and were seated immediately. By the end of our lunch, there was a long queue formed of people waiting to be seated. Menu is a simple list of simple dishes. On the occasion we were served very good Tonnarello Carbonara, a flavourful Tonnarello Nonna Nadi and a tasty Rigatoni al Pesto. These were all very good pasta servings, dished up quickly. Service was very friendly and prices reasonable for what was served. Really enjoyed our lunch at Tonnarello Scala and would gladly return for another round during future trips to Rome."
